We at Moss Bros. Buick GMC are always interested to learn about the new and innovative ways our favorite automakers, like GMC, are coming up with to support the green initiative. And while the models of the new GMC lineup all feature cutting-edge technology that helps to provide efficiency and eco-friendliness to the autos, that's not all GMC is doing. In fact, the very manufacturing plants at which the vehicles are produced, are starting to go green as well.

Recently, GMC made the announcement that it will add a new solar installation to its facility. Supplying enough energy to power 1,200 homes for a whole year, the astounding solar panels will be added to the rooftop of the company's Changwon Assembly plant in South Korea. Expected to be put in place in the third quarter of 2013, the array will span across 688,000-ft2. To provide some perspective, this area is equivalent to 11 American football fields.

And besides just lending itself to a symbolic representation of GMC's commitment to green energy, the solar structure is primarily intended to reduce the release of emissions from the plant, into the environment. According to industry experts, it is anticipated that the new covered-rooftop will generate enough solar energy to successfully cut carbon emissions by 2,400 metric tons per year!

As GM Manager of Renewable Energy, Rob Threlkeld puts it, "This announcement reflects GM's commitment to reduce the environmental footprint of our facilities, no matter where they are around the globe. By using renewable energy, we reduce our impact and save money at the same time."1

As GMC continues its commitment to green energy and technology, we'll be here to keep you up to date with the latest. For that, we encourage you to subscribe to the Moss Bros. Buick GMC blog using your RSS feed.
